How we turned one Hindi song into a 5-minute animated Krishna film

How we turned one Hindi song into a 5-minute animated Krishna film

How we turned one Hindi song into a 5-minute animated Krishna film

“Makhan Chor” was made in Atlabs from an uploaded song and one written concept. Here are the exact settings, the full prompt, and all 108 scenes it produced, so you can copy the method for your own track.

Most AI video tools give you one clip at a time, and you stitch a story together yourself. Atlabs works the other way round: you give it a finished song and a written plan, and it cuts the song into short scenes, generates a shot for each lyric phrase, and keeps the same characters and art style across the whole film.

The result here is a devotional children's music video about Krishna's childhood: his midnight birth in the prison cell, the river crossing, the butter thefts, the universe in his mouth, and Govardhan hill. Nobody animated a frame by hand. Everything below came from four inputs.

The film at a glance

  • Runtime: 4:59

  • Scenes: 108

  • Characters: 10

  • Song sections: 15

  • Language: Hindi

  • Export: 2K, 16:9

The workflow

  1. Upload the song (Hindi track, 16:9 frame)

  2. Pick a look (Storyboard mode, 3D Cartoon)

  3. Write the concept (characters, places, screenplay)

  4. Review the scenes and export (108 scenes, 2K render)

Step 1: Upload the song

Start a new story with the kids music workflow and upload your finished track. Atlabs transcribes the vocals and uses the timing of each sung phrase to decide where one scene ends and the next begins. You never set scene lengths yourself.

  • Script source: Uploaded Audio Story

  • Track: “माखन चोर” (Makhan Chor), a full Hindi devotional song with an intro, three verses, a bridge and three choruses

  • Language: Hindi

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape, for YouTube)

Tip: upload the final mix, not a demo. Scene cuts follow the vocal timing, so a re-recorded song means re-cutting every scene.

Step 2: Pick the look

  • Output mode: Storyboard

  • Image style: 3D Cartoon

Storyboard mode plans the film as a series of individual shots, each tied to a lyric phrase, which suits a song with lots of short lines. The 3D Cartoon style gives the soft, rounded, feature-animation look that works for a children's audience. Choose one style for the whole film: it keeps every character's design consistent from scene 1 to scene 108.

Step 3: Approve the concept

This is the detailed prompt that drives the whole film. It has three parts, and each one does a specific job. We used claude to generate this and pasted this in the storyline input section:

  • Characters. A fixed visual description for each of the 10 characters: skin tone, clothes, jewellery, one signature prop. Atlabs reuses these descriptions in every shot, which keeps Krishna looking like the same toddler in the prison cell and on Govardhan hill.

  • Locations. One home base, plus a minimal set for each part of the song. The phrase “one action at a time against a simple background” keeps the shots readable for young viewers.

  • Screenplay. Timestamped beats, each with a LYRIC CUE that ties it to a part of the song. This is how the visuals know that the Yamuna crossing belongs under “यमुना उमड़ी थी” and the hill-lifting under “काले बादल घिर आए”.

The full concept prompt, as entered in Atlabs:

CHARACTERS:

1. Krishna (protagonist): Adorable toddler with soft blue-tinted skin, big kohl-lined eyes, curly black hair with a single peacock feather, tiny yellow dhoti, gold anklets and a small bead necklace.
2. Yashoda (supporting): Warm, round-faced mother in a red-and-green sari with silver bangles; usually beside a clay butter pot or a churning rod.
3. Nanda (supporting): Kind village chief with a white dhoti, cream turban and a short salt-and-pepper beard.
4. Vasudeva (supporting): Gentle father with long dark hair, plain white cloth, broken chains still on his wrists.
5. Devaki (supporting): Soft-faced mother in a simple violet sari, tired eyes, a small silver pendant.
6. Balarama (supporting): Slightly older boy, fair-skinned and sturdy, pale blue dhoti, cheerful open grin.
7. Madhu (supporting): Small barefoot cowherd friend in an orange dhoti and a tiny turban with a marigold tucked in.
8. Sudha the Gopi (supporting): Young village woman in a bright pink sari, carrying a clay butter pot on her hip.
9. Radha (supporting): Little girl in a soft yellow lehenga, tiny flowers braided into her hair.
10. Neelu the Peacock (supporting): Bright blue-green peacock with a soft rounded body that opens its fan slowly.

LOCATIONS:

1. Gokul Courtyard Home: Bright, safe village home with mud-and-lime walls, pastel light, hanging clay pots, a swing and a simple uncluttered background; characters appear one at a time.
2. The Song Spots (one per section): Minimal vignettes — a quiet stone cell lit by soft gold light, the Yamuna at night, a neighbour's courtyard, a village doorway, green Govardhan hill and an evening pasture — each showing one action at a time against a simple background.

SCREENPLAY:

(No spoken dialogue. Every scene is cut to the Hindi song "माखन चोर"; the lyric line under each scene is the audio cue, not dialogue.)

[0:00–0:12] EXT. GOKUL SKY - NIGHT
Stars over a sleeping village. A single peacock feather drifts down through the dark and settles on a clay butter pot.

LYRIC CUE: [Intro] — bansuri flute, temple bells.

[0:12–0:36] INT. STONE CELL, MATHURA - NIGHT
Grey stone walls. DEVAKI holds a newborn wrapped in yellow cloth. VASUDEVA kneels beside her with old chains on his wrists. A soft gold light spreads across the floor.

The chains slip off and fall silently. The heavy door swings open by itself. Outside, the guards sleep peacefully against the wall.

LYRIC CUE: आधी रात थी… ताले खुद ही खुल गए, पहरा सारा सो गया

[0:36–1:00] EXT. YAMUNA RIVER - STORMY NIGHT
Warm silver rain. Vasudeva wades in holding a flat basket above his head, the baby smiling inside.

One tiny foot reaches out and touches the water. The river goes glassy and parts into a smooth path. A great many-hooded serpent rises behind him and spreads its hoods like an umbrella.

LYRIC CUE: यमुना उमड़ी थी… शेषनाग की छाँव में, राहें बन गईं

[1:00–1:12] INT. NANDA'S HOME, GOKUL - DAWN
Blue morning light. YASHODA wakes, sees the baby beside her and covers her mouth in joy. NANDA sits up, wide-eyed. She circles her hands around the baby's face in blessing.

LYRIC CUE: गोकुल में सवेरा, यशोदा मुस्कुरा दी

[1:12–1:34] INT. GOKUL KITCHEN - MORNING
Toddler KRISHNA tiptoes to a low shelf, dips a fist into a butter pot and smears it on his nose and chin.

Quick playful cuts on the beat: buttery footprints across the floor, anklets jingling, Yashoda's hands reaching, Krishna ducking under a low table, laughing.

LYRIC CUE: [Chorus] माखन चोर, माखन चोर…

[1:34–1:58] EXT. NEIGHBOUR'S COURTYARD - DAY
A butter pot hangs high from a rope. BALARAMA plants his feet, MADHU climbs onto his shoulders, Krishna scrambles to the top.

He tips the pot. Soft white butter drops in slow motion. A monkey on the wall catches a piece and eats it happily.

LYRIC CUE: ऊँची छींके पे मटकी… माखन गिरा, बंदर हँसा

[1:58–2:22] EXT. GOKUL COURTYARD HOME - DAY
SUDHA THE GOPI arrives at the doorway holding an empty pot. Yashoda turns, hands on hips.

Krishna steps out with folded hands and enormous innocent eyes, then points vaguely at the monkeys on the roof. Sudha spots butter behind his ear, tries to stay stern, and breaks into laughter.

LYRIC CUE: सुधा गोपी आ गई… हँसी देख के उसकी, गुस्सा पिघल गया

[2:22–2:44] EXT. VILLAGE LANE - DAY
Krishna, Balarama and Madhu race down the lane past cows and drying laundry, butter still on their cheeks. Village children join the run. Neelu the peacock opens his fan as they pass.

LYRIC CUE: [Chorus] माखन चोर, माखन चोर…

[2:44–3:08] EXT. COURTYARD GARDEN - DAY
Quiet. Krishna sits in the dust with a pinch of mud near his mouth. Yashoda kneels and gently tilts his chin up. He opens his mouth wide.

Inside: turning stars, drifting planets, whole galaxies moving slowly. Yashoda sits back, stunned.

CUT TO: She loops a rope around his waist — two fingers short. A longer rope — two fingers short. A pile of ropes at her feet. She stops, breathless, and smiles at him. The little rope closes gently around him on its own.

LYRIC CUE: [Bridge] मुँह खोलो ज़रा लाला… बँधता है बस प्रेम से

[3:08–3:32] EXT. GOVARDHAN HILL - DAY
Heavy clouds. Rain pours on villagers, cows and calves huddling together.

Krishna walks to the base of the green hill, crouches and lifts it on the tip of his little finger. The hill rises like an enormous umbrella.

Everyone runs underneath — Yashoda, Nanda, Balarama, Madhu, RADHA, Sudha, the cows and Neelu. Inside it is warm, dry and glowing.

LYRIC CUE: काले बादल घिर आए… नन्ही उँगली पे उठा लिया गोवर्धन पहाड़

[3:32–3:54] EXT. UNDER GOVARDHAN HILL - DAY
Everyone dances in the dry golden light beneath the hill: children clapping, gopis circling, calves skipping. Krishna holds the hill steady with one finger and grins straight at camera.

LYRIC CUE: [Chorus] माखन चोर, माखन चोर…

[3:54–4:10] EXT. VRINDAVAN PASTURE - EVENING
Amber sky, golden grass. Krishna sits on a rock playing the bansuri. Radha, Balarama and Madhu sit around him. Cows lift their heads, Neelu dances slowly.

Yashoda appears at the far edge of the field, waving him home. Krishna lowers the flute, grins, and runs down the slope, anklets jingling.

FINAL IMAGE: The empty butter pot and a peacock feather resting against the courtyard wall.

LYRIC CUE: [Outro]

Concept art: a stone cell lit by gold light, a small hand lifting a green hill under storm clouds, and a clay pot and peacock feather at dusk.

The concept image Atlabs generated from this prompt, previewing three key moments: the cell, Govardhan, and the closing pot and feather.

Tip: write the screenplay for the song you actually have. Each LYRIC CUE quotes the opening and closing words of that section, so Atlabs can find it in the audio.

Step 4: Every scene, and the prompt behind it

From the song and the concept, Atlabs produced 108 scenes. Most run 2.5 seconds, about one sung phrase. Longer held notes get 3 to 5 seconds. Atlabs writes the shot for each scene from the screenplay beat its lyrics fall under, so the prompt for every scene is that section of your concept.

Below, the film is broken into its 15 song sections. Each shows the exact part of the concept that drives it, what the Hindi lyrics mean, and every scene in order with its start time, length and lyric phrase.

The universe in his mouth

Bridge · Scenes 70–77 · 3:13–3:34

Prompt for this section (from the concept):

LYRIC CUE: [Bridge]

Step 5: Export

Once every scene looks right, export the story. This film was rendered at 2K, with the original song as the soundtrack and the Atlabs logo added as an image on the last scene. A 5-minute film exports as one MP4, ready for YouTube.

Make your own

  • Start with the finished song. Scene timing comes from the vocals, so lock the audio first.

  • Describe each character once, in detail. Colours, clothes and one signature item (a peacock feather, a marigold in a turban) do more for consistency than long backstory.

  • Give every song section its own beat. Quote the first and last lyric words in a LYRIC CUE so the visuals land on the right lines.

  • Stage choruses differently each time. The same chorus becomes a kitchen chase, a village race, then a dance under the hill, so the repeats never feel recycled.

  • Bookend the film. The feather that falls in the first shot comes back in the last, which gives a short film a sense of completeness.

Copy the concept above, swap in your own song, characters and beats, and you have the full recipe.
